Born in New York, New York, Carolina was the perfect child. She was the oldest sibling in a family of four, a loving and doting pair of parents who wanted to watch her grow and learn. Even at that age, she was precocious- she was smart, a little too sassy for her own good, and knew exactly what she wanted. All that came crashing down- literally- when she was 11 years old and the family, on a road trip to Florida, were involved in a terrible accident on the interstate. Everyone in the accident was killed, except for Carolina- who sustained injuries so crippling she was in a coma for months. When she woke up, she was perfectly healthy- with no idea what had just occurred. When Lina was twelve, she was placed into the care of her incredibly strict older grandmother, where she lived until she was fourteen. At fourteen, a rebellious streak, a little bit of pot and her grandma's no-tolerance policy ended in being dropped off at a children's home, where she lived until she was 16. By that point, Lina had grown sick of adults making the rules for her, and made multiple runaway attempts, one of which managed to keep her gone for two+ weeks, sleeping in all night superstores and doing yardwork for strangers for cash. Despite all this, she managed to keep her grades up, something that took little effort for a girl who was intelligent well above her age. While in the process of getting her degree in criminal justice, Carolina worked multiple jobs, including massage therapist, secretary, copy editor, tutor, and chef. Just further down the street from her apartment was a popular strip club, where, because of her looks, Carolina was given a gig without ever having to audition. It was there she worked as the tongue-in-cheek Peaches Deville until she received her criminal justice degree. Determined to start a new life and make some of herself, Lina packed up what little she had and moved to Boston, where she had been offered a career with the police force. Carolina was on the force for three years when she nearly died after being shot in the back during a botched bank robbery. The injury left her permanently off the force, and everything she had worked for for so long was dashed in an instant. With a permanent back injury that left her in rehab and constantly aching, she developed an alcohol dependency. Though she had tried in multiple instances to shake it or even go to rehab, she always ends up right back where she started, telling everyone it isn’t really a problem. To make matters worse, she bartends to supplement her income. Though she has definitely managed to get a hold on things since having her daughter, Daisy, in 2014, any time Daisy is gone she finds herself right back where she started. Now, Carolina is living arguably her best life so far- she loves her job, she has money, she's built friendship and a life. She is rarely referred to as the "troublesome" youth she once was, and no one knows about her history, more than the bits and pieces she will occasionally let sneak out. In a way, it's as if no one really knows her- a fact she's entirely comfortable with, since people who did know her always managed to do nothing but let her down. Sure, some would argue you couldn't really live until you were able to show your true, full self to someone, but Lina happened to believe she'd be doing just fine without it. | ||||
